Muriel Grossmann — MGQ live im King Georg, Köln — PHR_01
Released by Power House Records, 2025
The first live album by Muriel Grossmann was recorded during the Quartet’s spring tour in 2022. King Georg is a cozy and intimate jazz club in Cologne that hosts international artists weekly, with the sound resonating from the walls—a remarkable experience I was lucky to witness in person. The natural reverberation brought the music to life. MGQ performed two sets, and without any time limitations, they elevated the energy to the highest level. Bolstered by earlier performances in Finland and Denmark during their tour, the band's musicianship reached a peak of mutual understanding that night, resulting in an almost psychic connection.
This concert also marked the third live performance of MGQ with their new hammond B3 organist, Abel Boquera, who seamlessly immersed himself in the music, understanding his role and expanding its dimensions. Released in the edition of 500 copies on black vinyl, this live recording captures the Muriel Grossmann Quartet at their best— radiating pure energy, smokin’ and cookin’ on the joyful groove.
